Future of Talent

Past Retreats

"The significant problems we face cannot be solved
at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them."

The Future of Talent's cornerstone event is our annual retreat for community members. At this event we look at talent from a variety of perspectives. We look at demographic, economic, social and technological changes that have shaped where we are today. We collectively try to understand and explore the uniquely intertwined aspects of talent management including attraction, acquisition, development and retention.

We look at emerging technologies and software so that we can understand how to use them (or not) back at work. We have explored tools such as SecondLife and we have probed deeply into Web 2.0 efforts. Each retreat member has gone back with a deeper understanding and appreciation for what technology can do.

The leaders of this event believe that creative ideas and rejuvenation are best found at the intersections of disciplines. When people with widely different experiences and views on recruiting, development, and learning come together, exciting things will happen.

Most conferences invite people from vertical slices of a profession and therefore offer a narrow view. While this may be an excellent way to learn new skills or to hone existing ones, it usually does not generate new thinking or push the edge of a discipline.

This conference is designed to seek out the edges. It takes a horizontal look at talent from a variety of perspectives - that of e-learning, recruiting, succession planning, retention, marketing, and will even examine how language and how we talk about and frame out existence shape our experiences. ach retreat is held at a unique place - often rural, rustic or at least quaint.  All of our retreats are held on the west coast of the U.S. which allows us access to great weather and interesting places to explore.  Each retreat includes some outdoor activity as well.  We have been sea kayaking, hiking, and on scavenger hunts.  Whatever it is, we try and make it accessible to everyone and exercise our bodies as well as our minds.
