Our Origin Story
Identifying the Talent Imperative
Our roots trace back to the work of Kevin Wheeler and Eileen Clegg at the Institute for the Future. Through projects like “Window into Talent and Learning,” they identified talent as a critical area demanding a fresh perspective.
From Research to Action
Building on this foundation, Wheeler, along with Erik Foss, began delving into how to recruit, develop, and retain talent in the evolving global economy. This research, coupled with Wheeler’s work at Global Learning Resources, fueled the need for a new approach.
Building a Community of Talent Leaders
Recognizing the growing demand for future-focused insights, Wheeler envisioned a space where talent leaders could connect and share. In 2003, the idea for The Future of Talent Institute was born.
From Retreats to Research Institute
Our inaugural retreat in 2005 set the tone for 15 annual retreats that would follow by bringing together exceptional talent leaders from various industries and fostering open discussions with future-forward experts on future-critical topics. We empowered our community to drive positive change within their organizations, while continuing to share and collaborate between events.
